Developing the LIGHTPASS®-SP Q28 (QSFP28 AOC) (2024/Sep/2)

Background


I-PEX is developing the “LIGHTPASS®-SP Q28”, a multi-mode QSFP28 specification Active Optical Cable (AOC) that uses silicon photonics ICs for outdoor communication equipment requiring reliability in long-term use under high-temperature environments.
This product will be exhibited as a reference at ECOC, held in Frankfurt, Germany, from September 23 to September 25, 2024.
 

Product Features


The LIGHTPASS®-SP Q28 is a QSFP28 specification Active Optical Cable that uses the IOCore® silicon photonics IC from AIO Core Co., Ltd. as its optical engine, with QD-LD as the light source. Compared to optical modules using VCSEL as the light source, it offers superior long-term reliability and stable operation in high-temperature environment, making it ideal for outdoor communication equipment. Additionally, by not using lenses in the internal optical fiber connection parts of the module, it can also be used in immersion cooling environment, which is increasingly in demand in data center application.
